The iPhone app

The ifPOV app asks you to sign in with Apple or Google and keeps your playthroughs in sync with your account (see Accounts below). It has no ads and no tracking, and it doesn't share anything with third parties. Episodes stream from our video host (Vercel), which, like any web server, sees your IP address to deliver the video.

The website

ifpov.com uses Vercel Web Analytics and PostHog to see how people use the site: page views, which story choices people make, how far they watch, and recordings of taps and scrolling in the player (anything typed is hidden). PostHog keeps a random ID in your browser's local storage to link one visitor's events (and, if you sign in, your account ID, never your name or email), and sees your IP address, which it uses to estimate your country. The player keeps your progress in your browser's local storage.

Accounts

You can play on the website without an account; the iOS app asks you to sign in. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they share your name and email address with us (Google also shares your profile picture, and Apple can give us a private relay address instead of your own), and we keep you signed in with a cookie on the website or a token in the app. We then store your playthroughs, so you can pick them up on another device, along with any pre-orders, notifications and story requests you make. That data lives in our database (Neon, hosted in the US). We use your email only to tell you about stories you pre-ordered, asked to be notified about or requested, and we don't sell or share it. To have your account and everything tied to it deleted, ask us in our Discord.

Pre-orders

Pre-orders are paid through Stripe Checkout, for Figment Computer, Inc., the company behind ifPOV. Stripe handles your card details; we never see them. We keep a record that you pre-ordered, the amount and when, and email you the day the story is out.

Notifications

If you tap Notify me on a story, we remember it so we can tell you when it gets new episodes: by email on the website, or by a push notification in the app. For push notifications we keep the token Apple gives your phone for our app, and nothing else about the device. Tap Notify me again, or turn notifications off in Settings, to stop.

Beta testing

If you test the app through Apple's TestFlight, Apple shares the feedback, screenshots and crash reports you choose to send us. Apple's own privacy policy covers TestFlight itself.
